it's nap time and i'm sitting on the couch next to little L who is acting silly w/ her sippy cup, touching it to her toes and claiming how cold it is. now shes standing up and throwing around her pink snowman she got as an (early) xmas gift. she just lost paci out of her mouth and while she paused and gave a look of concern she has gone back to swinging pink snowman around. i want her to lay down and rest cuz i'm waiting for her to pee in her torture device they call a urine collector for toddlers.
this thing is just awful. pinning her down and adhere'g it isn't even the worst part. taking it off and attempting not to lose a drop of precious baby urine isn't the worst part. the fear of being sent back from dr office w/ more torture contraptions and being asked to collect 'more'- THAT is the worst part. i should know, since it has already happened to me once. i take it back, the worst will be getting bad news that a prolonged urine infection has led to a kidney infection. but i'm just projecting now.
Projecting is one of the curses of being a mommy; going far and beyond the call of worrisome duty. if my husband was here right now he would indeed be scoffing at me. but we've already been thru 10 days of antibiotics, at the tail of end of which Little L developed an allergy to the antibiotics at which point she needed an additonal 5 days of a steriods to counteract the allergy from the antibiotics. you should've seen her sad little burning red face (a symptom of her allergy). it was just adorable and pathetic all at the same time. then the "tummy hurts" started (another symptom of the allergy)which by the way i'm still dealing w/ to this day, haven't decided if she's just learned how to use 'tummy hurts' to her advantage or if indeed it still hurts, at which point (warning: projection alert) she may have an ulcer possibly caused by the antibiotics. jeez. what else?
so here we sit, just me and Little L. i turn to her in what i deem perfect timing to catch a laugh whilst she pats the snowman's hiney. and while i didn't L-O-L it did give me a smile that this somber, dry face needed. and besides, is there anything cuter than looking at little 2 yr old legs hanging out of a diaper? they just have the best legs, don't they??
