to Baptize or not to Baptize

A couple of weeks ago our Niece had her baptism. We were fairly surprised by this because neither coach hubs nor his sister were baptised and they are certainly not religious. I guess she did it out of Catholic guilt (no, she's not catholic- but her husband is and their guilt is far reaching).

We joked (at their expense) that the reason we didn't baptise our own kids was because we didn't wanted to go to their baptism! hint. hint. no, just kidding. It's just that to me: a non-religious person, brought up by non-religious parents who hypnotically walked thru religious milestones (ie baptisms) out of what seemed like pressure, guilt, coersion and the infamous "YOU CAN't NOT" line from someone's MOM, it all came across as a bunch of mumbo jumbo. It's bad enough I worry about my children being accepted by their peers, family etc, etc, much less worrying about the Lord Jesus Christ accepting them in their afterlife.

Religious people feel free to weigh in.
